Well, we decided we love Arizona in January!! The temperature was a sunny 78 degrees and wonderful. We even wore shorts most of the time. Much different from our 10-20 degrees in good old Cache Valley!!
Well, they did it! Jeff and Brandon ran in the Phoenix Rock and Roll Marathon last weekend and they both finished! Brandon did the half marathon and Jeff did the full one. It was amazing that either of them even went for it - Brandon has been so busy with work, school and the new baby that he hasn't been able to train much for it. And Jeff has been sick with a bad cold for about 10 days before the race and started having major foot problems for the month before it. He even went to a podiatrist who said it would be very painful but wouldn't do any permanent damage so of course Jeff went ahead and ran.
Andrea put Jocelyn in her little baby carrier and they volunteered with Alicia and me at the finish line. We started opening and hanging the full marathon medals at about 5:30 am and then got to present the runners with their medals when they crossed the finish line. It was really a lot of fun and a way to be involved. We met a lot of nice people. You wouldn't believe how many people thanked us for being there -- you wouldn't be surprised though at how many veered specifically to Ali to have her put their medal on specially!! It was pretty funny. There were about 10 volunteers doing the medals and she was definitely the favorite with the guys!!!
This is a picture of the two of them with their medals after the race. They look pretty good after running 13 and 26.2 miles!!! I got to meet Jeff at the finish line with his medal. I was so glad to see him. Neither one of them were too happy with their final times but they both finished about middle of the pack and they FINISHED!! Not too shabby for a first marathon!
